Dear Amherst Middle School Cougar Family,

Being a part of the  administrative team at Amherst Middle School is a step in my lifelong commitment to Amherst Middle School.  I am proud to say that I am an alumna of Amherst Middle School, and that I began teaching at AMS in 2000 and returned to its hallways in 2016.  My own child attended Amherst Middle School as well. The feelings I have for Amherst Middle School are due to the fantastic community this wonderful school serves, and the individuals that spend their time in these halls – students, parents, the faculty and staff of Amherst Middle School. It is with an excited and joy filled heart that I have the honor to return to this school and serve the community and school as Assistant Principal.

It is my vision to help lead a phenomenal school, which offers exceptional education opportunities for students: where students are passionately engaged in authentic teachable moments that inspire creativity and ensure students reach their fullest potential in academic and social growth. I hope to continue to help build a charismatic, respectful, safe, and welcoming academic community; where students are encouraged and supported to reach their fullest potential in academic and social growth, and to support an academic community where students are willing to take risks without fear of failure, share ideas without fear of recrimination, encourage and support their own learning.  I plan to facilitate transparent communication and conversations about each individual’s views of Amherst Middle School’s strengths and weaknesses. We must pursue these conversations in order to continue to grow.

Amherst Middle School has a long and proud tradition within the county of academic distinction. I believe that working together; we will be able to continue building upon this history and continue to deliver an exceptional education for our students.  As Dr. Jeffrey O. Smith, Virginia’s 2019 Superintendent of the Year, has shared with his staff, “Good, better, best.  Never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better is best.”  Again, I cherish the opportunity to serve the parents, students, and staff of Amherst Middle School.  Every child, every day!

Sincerely,

Ms. Fitzgerald
